Constitutionalism has gradually taken root in East Asia/Asia. Constitutional review is now being performed in most, if not all, of East Asia/Asia by courts of general jurisdiction or specialized constitutional courts. However, traditional law school approach to the study of constitutional law pays almost little attention to the interaction between constitutional adjudication and politics and to the impact of this interaction on the development of constitutional law in East Asia including Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia, China, Hong Kong as well as some Southeast Asian States.
This seminar is aimed at serving as an initial step to the understanding of East Asian/Asian constitutionalism. The topic of this seminar will include constitutional change, democracy and political participation and free speech. Students in this seminar are encouraged to have strong participation in the course, as the success of the seminar heavily depends upon the contributions of all participants.

In the past, schlarly attention to constitutional developments of East Asia has been scant. This seminar thus serves as an initial step to the understanding of East Asian constitutionalism. The topic of this seminar will include constitutional change, democracy and political participation and free speech.
